What is “Inner Engineering”?

What is “Inner Engineering”? Sadhguru explains that to “engineer” something means to design it to be the way you want it. We engineer the world around us constantly, but we never think about how to engineer our inner world.

Practices to Begin Your Inner Engineering
Sadhguru’s book focuses more heavily on the philosophical concepts behind his own yogic methods. But he does offer some basic practices you can implement to begin to put some of these concepts to work in your own life. In this section, we will briefly describe a few of those practices. 

Get in Touch With the 5 Elements
Sadhguru says that according to yogic practice, everything is composed of five elements: Earth, Air, Water, Fire, and Ether. His advice is to begin to think of the world around you in terms of these five elements, and acknowledge them with reverence. For example, when you drink water, consciously acknowledge it as a sacred element; when you walk on the ground, look at the dirt and recognize it as the sacred element of earth. If you interact with the world in this way, you’ll begin to see the world around you as sacred.

Practice Fasting
There are several different ways to do intermittent fasting, but they are all based on choosing regular time periods to eat and fast. For instance, you might try eating only during an eight-hour period each day and fast for the remainder. Or you might choose to eat only one meal a day two days a week.

Many people practice yoga in an attempt to escape the daily rush of modern life, but unfortunately, for most of us, yoga is nothing more than physical exercise with the purpose of getting our bodies ready for the next workday marathon. However, the reality is, yoga is more than a keep-fit class. In reality, yoga is a philosophy and a form of prayer that targets the energy centers of the body and sharpens the mind.

In order to truly be fulfilled, we need to notice how we experience the world within ourselves. This is the most important thing because people tend to fixate so much on the outer world. Many people are convinced that this is where all their experiences and emotions – negative or otherwise – are to be found.

Human perceptions and emotions are self-created, meaning we have the ability to guide and change your experience in life. More than anything, it demonstrates the fact that our emotions are entirely self-generated. This means that it isn’t just about physical objects, such as books, food, and houses that are perceived within us, but the same is true for the way we feel.

Mindfulness – Mindfulness can be described as the practice of paying attention to the present moment, and doing it intentionally with non-judgment. Mindfulness meditation practices refer to the deliberate acts of regulating attention through the observation of thoughts, emotions and body states. Typical mindfulness activities include: mindful non-judgmental awareness of breath, body, feelings, emotions and/or thoughts (in sitting meditation practice or throughout the day).

In order to achieve enlightenment, we must align our body, mind, emotions, and energy & Soul. It is probably clear to us since childhood, that teamwork is the key to success. The same rule applies when it comes to individual organisms: in order to function properly, each part of our entire being needs to work in tandem with the other parts. In order to reach enlightenment, we need to work on a tight communication system between our body, our mind, our emotions, and our energy.

Our intellect makes it even more difficult for us to experience life to its fullest. Today, most people believe in science, however, even science has very human limitations. Our intellect, in fact, can even prevent us from experiencing life to the fullest. ”In order to truly experience life, we need to recognize how small and insignificant we are in this huge universe”. Taking this a step further, it’s also important to remind ourselves often that every thought we have is even less significant in the universe than we are.

Visiting locations loaded with spiritual energy can kickstart your spiritual journey. Many people see the concept of spiritual energy as esoteric and lofty. Even many people who are serious about their spiritual journey often struggle with figuring out where and how to start.
