That’s how the Oxford Dictionary defines leadership. In simple words, leadership is about taking risks, challenging the status quo and being responsible for your actions and those of your group. Leaders motivate others to achieve something bigger and better. Interestingly, leaders do what they do to pursue innovation, not as an obligation. They measure success by looking at the team’s achievements and progress of learning.
What Do Leaders Do?
Leaders are not always people who hold higher ranks in an organisation. But they are people who are known for their unshakeable beliefs and great work ethics. Leaders are passionate about their mission, and they pass on their enthusiasm to their fellow colleagues, enabling them to achieve more, do better and treat their fellow cityzens in a respectful way.
1. Honesty and Integrity: Leaders value virtuousness and honesty. They are followed by people who believe in them and their vision.
2. Inspiration: Leaders are self-motivating, and this makes them great influencers. They are a positive inspiration to their followers. They help others to understand their roles in a bigger context.
3. Communication skills: Leaders possess great communication skills. They are transparent with their team and share failures and successes with them.
4. Vision: Leaders are visionaries. They have a clear idea of what they want and how to achieve it. Being good communicators, leaders can share their vision with the team successfully.
5. Never give-up spirit: Leaders challenge the status quo. Hence, they never give up easily. They also have unique ways to solve problems.
6. Intuition: Some experts believe that leaders should rely on intuition for making difficult decisions. Especially because intuition relies on a person’s existing knowledge and life learnings, which proves to be more useful in complex situations.
7. Empathy: A leader should be an emotional and empathetic fellow because these faculties will help in developing a strong bond with their team. Furthermore, these qualities will help a leader in addressing the problems, complaints, and aspirations of his team members.
8. Objectivity: Although empathy is an important quality a leader must imbibe, getting clouded by emotions while making an important business decision is not advisable. Hence, a good leader should be objective.
9. Intelligence: A good leader must be intelligent enough to arrive at business solutions to difficult problems. Furthermore, a leader should be analytical and should weigh the pros and cons before making a decision. This quality can be polished with an all-inclusive leadership training program.
10. Open-mindedness and creativity: A good leader is someone who is open to new ideas, possibilities, and perspectives. Being a good leader means understanding that there is no right way to do things. Therefore, a good leader is always ready to listen, observe, and be willing to change. 11. Patience: A good leader understands that any strategy takes time to develop and bear results. Additionally, they also believe that “continuous improvement and patience” will leads to success.
12. Flexibility: Since leaders understand the concept of “continuous improvement”, they also know that being adaptable will lead them to success. Nothing goes as per plan. Hence, being flexible and intuitive helps!

The ability to motivate people in the business world typically relates to outward influence (money, benefits, position, vacation, etc.), although true leaders, in comparison focus on motivating their people to act in a professional. compassionate and sustainable way in harmony with a higher purpose.
As we have learned previously we can only apply two strategies of motivating human behavior: trickery and manipulation or true and honest inspiration in the name of a higher purpose.

HOW is a technical question: often given to explain how something is different or better, like USPs or value propositions.
WHY is asking for a reason, a purpose, cause, belief? very few people can clearly articulate why they do what they do – what is your purpose, cause or belief?

People don’t buy what we do, they buy why we do it. Apple´s competitors did not focus anymore on their WHY, they turned away from being companies with a cause into organizations that mainly sold products.
It works like a powerful magnet that attracts people across all continents and all cultures.
It is about the feeling we get when those around us share our values and beliefs.
When we feel like we belong together, we feel connected and we feel safe and protected.
When you take decisions, you do not base them always on rational thinking only, most of the times you go for what feels right, that is why we all have a hard time explaining why we make certain decisions.
So wehere does this happen? Decision-making and the ability to explain our decisions, our intuition, or the famous gut decision, happens in our limbic brain!
When manipulation is applied, a certain feeling of discomfort and unease increases for buyers, uncertainty increases for sellers and stress increases for all parties involved. The whole interaction needs more transparency.
